Great afternoon today (Wednesday). Operation Talents took the approach of the "parable of the Talents" and gave each of our Neighbourhood Team Leaders , all at Sergeant rank,£500 to develop community initiatives. No parameters were set, other than to advance the needs of local communities through neighbourhood policing. This afternoon we had eleven short presentations on what had been achieved. It was one of the most uplifting days I have spent in my Police career. I will add full details later, but the projects that were presented ranged from youth football, a youth shelter and sports provision, working with a school on crime reduction, street dance, "street surfing", community consultation, community information and a whole range of other youth and community provision. By the end of the presentations, a tot up revealed that our Sergeants had taken the total £5500 given to them and geared it up by obtaining £53k partner and sponser funding as well as untold community benefit.
The sheer energy and commitment revealed was fantastic. I will stick some more up about this tomorrow, but wanted to put something down about this before the day ends.
